If you bought a house during 2021 then you will need to file for your Homestead Exemption if the house you bought is your primary residence. Below is a list of the local government offices where you can file. You will need a copy of your recorded deed. The deadline to file is April 1, 2022. Call me if you have any questions or need help with the process.
GEORGIA LAW provides that every homeowner is eligible to claim Homestead Exemption as a tax benefit that can amount to a considerable annual savings for the homeowner.
Georgia Law has recently changed allowing most counties to have an April 1st deadline for filing. Please contact your local county assessor to determine if any exceptions apply to the deadline date for your county. In addition, many counties offer Homestead Exemption application forms and information on their county web site to expedite the process. Additional information can also be found at the Georgia Department of Revenue’s website: www.dor.georgia.gov. To verify deadline dates, please contact your local county tax office:

A Homestead Exemption allows a partial exemption on a portion of the assessed value of your home (the amount varies from county to county). To qualify for the property tax exemption, the HOMEOWNER must file for Homestead Exemption either in person or by mail depending on the county in which you reside.
I appreciate your business and trust you are enjoying your new home. I also hope that you will remember me if you have any friends or relatives in need of assistance in buying or selling a home in 2022.
